NÛR – نور

Literally: Luminous, light, the opposite of any kind of darkness. A source and centre of the light. The light, the flame that defeats the darkness.

Al-Qur’an Al-Hakîm. Îmân. Islam. The Prophet. Knowing haqq at the degree of certainty (yaqîn). Ma’rifat. Haqiqah. The proofs of îmân.

Nûr is of two sorts: One is worldly and the other is related to the âkhirah.

The first is the nûr of objects, like the sun, moon and stars, that can be perceived by sight.

The second is the nûr, like the mind and the nûr of the Qur’an, that is dispersed from nûr of Allah.
