ULU'L-‘AZM PROPHETS

الرسل اولي العزائم

 

Literally: Ulu'l-‘Azm are masters of determination. It is used for those elevated people who possess seriousness, earnestness, steadfastness, determination and patience.

As an Islamic term: The five Prophets who were given books and laws, distinguished by the âyah of the Qur’an as highest in rank; Nûh (as), Ibrâhîm (as), Mûsâ (as), ‘Îsâ (as) and Muhammad (asm).

The reasons for giving this attribute to those certain Prophets are they were given an independent Sharî’ah and they resisted to any kind of enmity and hardship patiently for spreading their Sharî’ah.

شَرَعَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الدّ۪ينِ مَا وَصّٰى بِه۪ نُوحًا وَالَّذ۪ٓى اَوْحَيْنَٓا اِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِه۪ٓ اِبْرٰه۪يمَ وَمُوسٰى وَع۪يسٰٓى اَنْ اَق۪يمُوا الدّ۪ينَ وَلاَ تَتَفَرَّقُوا ف۪يهِۜ{ ١٣ }1

2 وَاِذْ اَخَذْنَا مِنَ النَّبِيّ۪نَ مِيثَاقَهُمْ وَمِنْكَ وَمِنْ نُوحٍ وَاِبْرٰه۪يمَ وَمُوسٰى وَع۪يسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَۖ وَاَخَذْنَا مِنْهُمْ م۪يثَاقًا غَل۪يظًۙا{ ٧ }

3 فَاصْبِرْ كَمَا صَبَرَ اُو۬لُوا الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ وَلاَ تَسْتَعْجِلْ لَهُمْۜ { ٣٥ }

1 (He has ordained for you the same Dîn (way of life, religion, faith - Islam) which He enjoined on Nûh - and which We have revealed to you O Muhammad - and which We enjoined on Ibrâhîm and Mûsâ and ‘Îsâ : "Establish the Dîn of Al-Islam and make no division in it. The Qur’an 43:12 )

2 (O Muhammad, remember the Covenant which We took from all the Prophets - from you as well as from Nûh, Ibrâhîm, Mûsâ and  ‘Îsâ son of Maryam - We took that solemn Covenant from all of them. The Qur’an 33:7)

3 (Therefore, bear with them with patience, as did the Ulu'l-‘Azm Rasûls endowed with firmness of purpose before you, and do not be in haste about them. The Qur’an 46:35)
