ÂYAH - آية

Literally âyah is a sign; a token; a mark; a wonder or miracle; a clear proof that is fundamentally undeniable to sound intellect.

As an Islamic Term: In its textual sense, the smallest unit (verse) of the Qur’an, arising from Allah’s attribute of Kalâm. In its universal sense, it refers to any entity, phenomenon, or event throughout the universe that serves as a manifest sign proving the existence, oneness and attributes of the Creator, thereby inspiring a ma‘nawî awakening and revival in the human heart. Just as the textual verses of the Qur’an are âyâhs that manifest from the attribute of Kalâm, so too the beings in the universe are living âyâhs created by the attribute of Qoudrah.
