Literally: That keeps. That preserves. That guards. That defends. A guardian. A keeper. A protector. A custodian. Who is mindful and observant of. Who maintains inviolate.

One who is learning or has learnt and knows by heart the whole text of the Qur'an. Also, one who commits to memory and remembers anything. Any man who knows the whole Qur'an by heart.
